It’s crazy to me that my little monkey has turned one year old! Where did time go? the days felt long but the months flew by. Planning her birthday party started a few weeks before the big day. I wanted to create something that was boho chic and floral, especially given that her middle name is Rose, roses were a must! I hope that this boho/floral theme party gives you some inspiration as you plan your next event.
ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS
Given that this was going to me a small birthday party I wanted to focus on the details. A way to incorporate the boho feel was by adding a large macrame from JainasHandmade which created the most stunning focal point. To add a nice rustic charm for the cakes and charcuterie I went with a custom tray and cake stand from Barnwood Burlap & Bows. The woodwork that Kelli the shop owner and her family make is breathtaking.
Although I was working with a small space I wanted to create a few focal points. One was the macrame where the food was, another was where the cake smash occurred. Last but not least was a flower wall by Bloom Screens Rental which we used to take family pictures. The flower wall was absolute PERFECT and I wish it was something that I could have kept forever! If you’re ever contemplating getting a flower wall trust me, it’s worth every penny!
I spared no details on Kensi either! she’s a wild one, that’s for sure. To go with the theme, I wanted her to wear a white linen dress. Juni Bee Kids creations are truly stunning and elegant. Megan, the shop owner is currently on maternity leave and currently has limited stock available on the shop. Make sure to note that when you’re ordering. Kensi’s head band is from Sweet Nest Boutique, Teresa makes stunning headpieces for little ones. I honestly wish I had a matching headband! It added the perfect touch to her outfit, it brought it all together.
NO PARTY IS COMPLETE WITHOUT SOME GOOD EATS
Nothing like centering a party around food right!? Given that this was a one year old party it was important to have some treats for everyone alongside some cake of course! What pairs well with Rosé wine, well a charcuterie board. I found a new local shop called Fraser & Fig who makes graze boards and it was DELICIOUS! Macarons are by far my favourite thing in the word (well besides from tacos of course hehe). I have always dreamt with having a macaron tower and Ollia delivered with the most delicious Rose flavoured macaroons to tie into the theme.
Now onto the highlight of any party, the cake! We had two separates cakes, one for the cake smash, because you know, no one year old party is complete without one. The second was for the rest of us and included dairy as Kensi is allergic. The cakes were create by María de los Ángeles from Flourish Boutique Bakery who is actually my sister-in-law and makes the most delicious cakes ever!
THOUGHTFUL FAVOURS FROM A ONE YEAR OLD PARTY
Having some party favours is something I always do as a way to thank our family for everything they have done for us as well as being able to share the special occasion with us. For Kensi’s baptism we did little cacti with a label saying thanks for helping me grow. Super cute right!! Clearly I couldn’t do that again hehe. This time around I went for scented candles from C&C Candle Company that were rose scent. Honestly, how perfect is that scent!? I didn’t want to take away from the packaging but I wanted to wrap them up. By wrapping them up with the same cheesecloth linen I used for decoration it made the candle and label visible while having a touch of rustic boho.
THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE PARTY – THE CAKE SMASH
The cake smash was the event of the party! I wanted to have a perfect backdrop for Kensi to try cake for the first time. Dana’s Sweet Designs did the most perfect job with the balloon garland. Kensi was mesmerized by the balloons and kept staring and pointing at them the whole time, it was adorable to watch. The highchair was I project that I wanted to do but time was limiting. Sarah from heysarahdarling is such a kind human and actually lend us her chair. It added the perfect touch!
Hold me close and hold me fast
This magic spell you cast
This is la vie en rose…
CAPTURING THE MOMENT – ALPINA PHOTOGRAPHY
Throughout all the planning and setting up, I knew being in the moment the day of was important to me. That’s why having Pinar from Alpina Photography come in and take pictures was a must. We mainly focus on the cake smash which happened to be at 12:30 exactly the time when Kensi was born. Pinar is super sweet; she came in and just clicked with everyone. Her charismas and love for photography truly shines through. The pictures turned out AMAZING!! It was really hard to narrow it down to 30 but I did it hehe. Now I just need some time to sit down and put together a photo book.
I CAN’T BELIEVE I HAVE A ONE YEAR OLD
It’s absolutely crazy that my baby is now a toddler, like how is that possible. The first few months of her life we’re extremely hard for me, but it was all so worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat! The past months Kensi has become her on little person, her personality shines through so much. She is such a little flirt, full of laughter and charm. She is such a smart cookie; it surprises me how fast she grows and learns new things.
I cannot wait to see what the next year brings us and who she becomes. Watching her grow is truly the best gift. No matter what, you’ll always be my baby. For now, I will go enjoy a glass of wine and read the first blog post I ever did on Kensi ‘LIFE WITH A NEWBORN‘. She was so tinyyyyyy! I’m not crying, you’re crying.
I loved this post! You did an amazing job planning her birthday party and Kensi looked absolutely precious! Great job Dani 💖
It was a pleasure to photograph little Kensi on her first birthday. Such lovely party you put together Daniela! Little Kensi was adorable in her white cotton dress. For the first time I didn’t need to decorate the cake smash background. You did a great job! I loved it!
