Since becoming pregnant a lot of habits have changed. Among the hardest changes has been drinking more water and cutting down the coffee. It’s amazing how how quickly things change. I never have been a huge water person… I just find it plain and a chore to drink. As a result I found creating infused waters were a life changer! There are tons of recipes out there for infused waters and it really is all about playing with the ingredients that you like.
BENEFITS OF INFUSED WATER
Drinking water is not just a must for pregnancy, as the weather starts to warm up hydration is key! First of all there are a ton of reasons why infused waters are so beneficial. It is very encouraged for weight loss. To flush out toxins from your body as well as to regulate bowel movement. It’s a natural remedy to reduce headaches and increase energy, these are just a few of the reasons why drinking water or infused water is so key for our digestion system.
MY FAVOURITE INFUSED WATER COMBINATION
I found that creating different types of infused waters really helped me build a habit of drinking more water; now I really do drink so much more than I used to. It doesn’t take much to create them! Some of my favourite infused water mixes are strawberry-thyme and blueberry-basil. For some more inspiration, there are a ton of creations available on Pinterest. Soup Addict has an incredible Refreshing, Nourishing Homemade Vitamin Water that looks so divine! It literally screams summer. Now if you want to get even more creative and are just as obsessed with your Instant Pot as I am, Recipes from A Pantry has created infused waters in the Instant Pot. Instant Pot Infused Water 4 Ways is a must try if you want to take your infused water skills to the next level.
CUCUMBER LEMON AND MINT INFUSED WATER
My go-to infused water mix has to be cucumber lemon and mint. These ingredients I have on hand at all times and having it all pre-cut makes it even easier to pull together. Cucumber alone has amazing benefits, they are rich in antioxidants such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and vitamin A and K. They help to reduce blood pressure and improve muscle health. They even help maintain healthy skin. Lemon has been mainly known for aiding weight loss benefits, but it offers much more than that. Lemons are a great way to give your body natural electrolytes and vitamin C. Mint is a great anti-inflammatory, which helps if you’re bloated or experiencing issues with IBS.
CUCUMBER LEMON AND MINT RECIPE
Whipping up this recipe is super easy. What I love about infused water is that you can add as much of your favourite ingredients as you want. Depending on your jug size or simply depending on how much flavour you want, you might need to add more or less. Alternatively, if you’re hosting a party, you can set up a little serving station where you have all your ingredients in individual bowls and your guests can decided what they want in their water.

Add as much water as you can.
HOW LONG CAN YOU STORE INFUSED WATER FOR?
First of all, I drink the infused water the same day I make it. Which I would say is probably a good thing! The recommended storage life is up to 3 days; after that it can go bad. Once I finish drinking my first jug, I usually fill it up with water again and let the flavours absorb. If needed I just add a few more ingredients if I find it’s losing its flavour or add whatever other ingredients you had around to change it up. It’s amazing how easy and beneficial creating infused waters really is.
It’s crazy how my priorities have changed! This pretty much non-water drinking momma has gone from barely drinking it to having infused water all day everyday. Well to be honest there isn’t many other options! I do have to say I miss having cocktails like the ‘Love Potion Valentine’s Cocktail‘ creation I made which was delicious, and wine…. oh wine how I miss you! t-minus 1 month to go!
